General Adult Psychiatry
Expert assessment and management of anxiety, depression, insomnia, OCD and PTSD
What to Expect
From your first contact to ongoing care, here is what the process looks like.
- 1
Your Initial Appointment (60–90 minutes)
The initial appointment is a thorough psychiatric assessment. Dr. Korb will take a detailed history covering your current symptoms, past mental health and physical health, all previous and current medications, family psychiatric history, and the wider context of your life circumstances. At the end of the appointment, she will share her clinical impressions with you and discuss recommended next steps — whether that involves medication, psychological therapy, further investigation, or a combination.
- 2
Written Report
A clinical letter addressed to your GP is provided as standard following your appointment, summarising the assessment findings and any recommendations. More detailed written reports — suitable for occupational health, legal, insurance, or benefits purposes — are available for an additional fee. Please mention if you require one at the time of booking.
- 3
Ongoing Care
Follow-up appointments are available at £260 each. The frequency depends on your individual needs, the nature of your treatment, and how you are responding. For those on medication, regular reviews are important to monitor efficacy and tolerability. The follow-up schedule will be agreed at your initial appointment and reviewed as your care progresses.
Conditions Treated
Dr. Korb provides expert assessment and management across a range of common and complex mental health conditions.
Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health conditions affecting adults. Dr. Korb provides assessment and treatment for generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic disorder, and health anxiety, among others.
Depression ranges from mild, transient low mood to severe, disabling illness. A thorough assessment helps identify the type and severity of depression and the most effective treatment approach — whether psychological, pharmacological, or both.
Insomnia has profound effects on mental and physical health. Dr. Korb is CBT-Insomnia (CBT-I) trained — the first-line evidence-based treatment for chronic insomnia — and co-authored the sleep chapter for the Frith Prescribing Guidelines.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder can be significantly disabling. Assessment clarifies the nature and severity of obsessions and compulsions, and guides decisions about medication and psychological treatment.
Post-traumatic stress disorder requires a careful, trauma-informed approach to assessment and treatment. Dr. Korb is experienced in complex PTSD and can advise on the full range of evidence-based treatments, including medication, EMDR referral, and trauma-focused therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about private psychiatric care. If your question is not answered here, please get in touch.
Do I need a referral from my GP to see a private psychiatrist?
No — you can self-refer directly without a GP referral. While a referral is not required, it is generally recommended to inform your GP that you are seeking a private psychiatric assessment, so that your care can be well coordinated and your GP remains in the loop.
What happens at the initial psychiatric assessment?
The initial appointment lasts 60–90 minutes and involves a detailed psychiatric history: your current symptoms, past mental and physical health, any previous treatments or medications, family history, and your life circumstances. At the end of the appointment, Dr. Korb will share her clinical impressions and discuss recommended next steps with you.
Can Dr. Korb prescribe medication privately?
Yes. Dr. Korb is a consultant psychiatrist and can prescribe the full range of psychiatric medications privately. Following any prescription, she will write to your GP to keep them informed. Where possible, she will also advise on shared care arrangements so that repeat prescriptions can be managed by your GP.
How does private psychiatry work alongside NHS care?
Private and NHS care can complement each other well. Dr. Korb will communicate with your GP after each appointment. If NHS services — such as community mental health teams or psychological therapy services — are appropriate and available, she will advise on how to access them alongside or instead of private care.
Will I receive a written report after my assessment?
A clinical letter to your GP is included as standard following your initial assessment. More detailed written reports — suitable for employment, legal, or insurance purposes — are available for an additional fee. Please discuss your requirements at the time of booking or at the appointment.
How long will I need follow-up appointments?
This varies considerably and depends on the nature of your difficulties, whether medication is prescribed, and how you respond to treatment. The frequency and duration of follow-up will be discussed at your initial appointment and reviewed regularly. Some people require just a small number of follow-up appointments; others benefit from longer-term support.
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist or therapist?
A psychiatrist is a fully qualified medical doctor who has completed specialist training in psychiatry. As a doctor, Dr. Korb can diagnose psychiatric conditions, prescribe medication, and provide medical management. Psychologists and therapists focus primarily on talking therapies. In many cases, a combination of psychiatric and psychological input works best, and Dr. Korb can advise on and facilitate referrals to appropriate therapists.
Is the consultation confidential?
Yes. Consultations are entirely confidential. Information is shared with your GP only with your consent, or in circumstances where there is a serious and immediate concern about your safety or the safety of others — in line with standard professional and legal obligations. This will always be discussed with you.
